Cross Training & Shopping Trips

Happy Saturday, everyone! Fall starts tomorrow, so I will be eating/drinking/smelling pumpkin everything until December. It's seriously the most wonderful time of the year.

I have this training rule that I will not drink any alcohol during the two weeks leading up to the big race (I'm really sacrificing for my sport, let me tell you). Two weeks from today is the big day, so I said goodbye to my BFF Vino last night at wine night with the girls. The things I do for running...

This morning I woke up to this...

So I decided to make good use of this...

Cross training is such a vital part of any training plan and something that has been missing from my life since I moved to Columbus over one month ago. There are so many benefits to cross training (injury/burnout prevention, active recovery), and this article from Runner's World sums it up quite nicely. Anyone that says you cannot get a killer workout on the elliptical isn't doing it right. An hour later, and I felt great. The aches in my quads went away after 20 minutes, and my legs felt stronger as I hit my intervals. We have an elliptical machine at my apartment complex, and I will definitely be dedicating one day per week to cross training to give my legs a break from running while still staying active...

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm hanging with my cousin this weekend. We went to the mall to buy her a homecoming dress. This was the winner. I think she looks amazing!

After the mall, the cousin and I met my brother and our other cousin for dinner at Bravo to celebrate the Buckeyes win. Family dinners are the best. And how amazing does that food look? I had the grilled salmon with sweet potatoes and asparagus (and my large Pellegrino to make me feel like a grown up).

How often do you cross train?

Who's excited for Fall??
