Pre-Thanksgiving Workouts

So yesterday was as productive as I thought it would be. I left my house only to go eat this delicious dinner of chicken, black beans, salsa and rice. Oh and bread. We always have bread…

My second favorite holiday is almost here - Thanksgiving. I'm quite competitive with myself, and I consider Thanksgiving my Superbowl; the event I work hard all year to come out on top in. The challenge: How to not gain ten pounds in one long weekend.

Make no mistake, I love Thanksgiving. The cheer, the wine, the food, the family…the wine. But it's also very easy to gobble up a little too much turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, broccoli and rice casserole (we really love our casseroles), not to mention stuffing, the second little bowl of stuffing, and have I mentioned wine? In order to keep my waistline where it currently is, I make sure to sweat a lot the week of Thanksgiving. A few extra miles for a little extra pumpkin pie - Sounds good to me!

Today I ran 4 miles on the Treadmill, followed by walking on an incline, abs and weights. I really don't like the treadmill, so interval training is the only way I survive. I start at a slow pace (around a 9:45 mile pace today), and bring up the speed each quarter mile. I was in between 6.3 and 7mph my entire run. Interval training is such a great cardio workout. It keeps the body guessing and brings the heart rate up and down so you burn more fat and calories than if you were to stay at a consistent pace.

For lunch, I had Panera Bread Tomato Bisque that I purchased at Target. It was a tad sweet, so I only had one cup and not the full container (look at me actually listening to serving sizes), but I liked it. Nothing like warm soup when it's 25 degrees outside…

It's starting to snow and I have to trek to personal training pre-sunrise tomorrow. Dear Winter, that'll do.

What's your favorite holiday?

Do you have a go-to Treadmill workout?
