Back On Track Monday After Super Boring Bowl Sunday

Yesterday we celebrated the worst Super Bowl in recent memory. I decided by default of location that it was acceptable to wear my Giants Jersey one last time this season…

Team MetLife Stadium?
I made turkey chili for the first time, and everyone said they enjoyed it. I liked it, so I don't think they were lying to be nice. Recipe here

Chili and pickles - surprisingly good combo

The girls supplied an awesome spread of snacks (homemade 7 layer dip!). When the game became unbearable (about five minutes in), I spent the rest of my time next to this table…

I knew I would be indulging last night, so I scheduled training for 8 am this morning. I'm still debating on whether I'm a genius or a masochist. I ran 4.1 miles on the indoor track, strength trained for 30 minutes, elliptical for 12 and then cooled down. Kate - 1; Super Bowl - 0.

Splits - Total Time: 37:40
Mile 1: 9:22
Mile 2: 9:06
Mile 3: 9:04
Mile 4: 9:09

I'm very quad dominant, so my trainer and I have been focusing primarily on my hamstrings by doing deadlifts with cardio/ab work in between sets. Romanian deadlifts with a 45 pound barbell were first. Then we took the free weights (25 pounds) and did backward lunges into a frontal deadlift - your head is parallel to the ground with you lunging leg straight behind you. It's sort of like airplane pose in yoga, only holding a free weight down by your grounded foot. My hamstrings were on fire, but I know it's so important to my running to have strong, equally balanced legs. Overcompensation leads to injury, which leads to sadness.

Did you watch the Super Bowl? Favorite commercial? That puppy/horse commercial was the best.

Best thing you ate yesterday?

What exercises do you do to strengthen your hamstrings?
