Family Support & Talking Yourself Into A Run

First, we must discuss this text from my dad. My blog has a decent number of page views, and I'm so grateful to all of you who take the time to read, but I always assumed my parents were a few of those views. Well, they better be now :)

The rain came last night…well it was ice rain, but I think that's the logical next step before spring - Snow, ice rain, rain, sunshine - Isn't that how it works?

A little ice rain shouldn't keep us from the gym, and apparently everyone else in Hilliard felt the same way, because the gym was packed. I actually thought there was a promotional event happening or something, but it was just another Monday. I had a post-long run shake out run scheduled.

4 Miles in 37:24 - Average pace 9:21

Mile 1: 9:20
Mile 2: 9:11
Mile 3: 9:18
Mile 4: 9:33

I do A LOT of internal talking to myself when I run, and I was feeling kind of blah yesterday, so I told myself I just needed to do three miles. Then it turned into 30 minutes of running; then 3.5 miles; and then I knew four more laps wouldn't kill me - hence why my forth mile was my slowest pace, but I did it…

Post-run, I focused on my abs and legs. A strong core makes for faster running. Squats with overhead press, straight leg deadlifts with 15 pound free weights, crunches of all kind, chair dips, repeat twice.

How did you sweat on Monday?

Do you talk to yourself during runs or zone out?
