Thoughts For Thursday - Weight Loss Edition

I should have done a "Weight Loss Wednesday" post, but forgot, so now you get Thoughts For Thursday - Weight Loss Edition. Go with the flow, people.

I've made it no secret of my struggles and triumphs with weight loss. I have gained about 12 pounds since I moved to Columbus last August. I needed to gain about 7-8 pounds from where I was, but now it's time to lose that extra 5 pounds that were the result of too many restaurant dinners and craft beers.

We have 21 days until Memorial Day weekend, which is when I will be traveling back to the Jersey Shore for a long weekend (hopefully at the beach, weather permitting!). So it's time to get serious. The below pic is actually from last summer in Florida, but every bit of motivation helps!

Paradise

So now to make a plan to make this happen. Lucky for me, I've done this before, so I know what it takes, although I'll be tweaking things this time around.

The Weight Loss Plan

1) Diet, diet, diet. - Exercise is important, but your diet is 80% of the weight loss battle. Sorry for the bad news people who think they can eat like crap and run for 30 minutes and burn it all off. It doesn't work that way. So I'll be choosing as many whole foods as possible with lots of protein to keep me fuller longer.

Eat clean

2) Exercise is necessary too! I kinda already have this down, but it's time to step up the workouts. After my race this weekend, I will be doing shorter distances, but more interval and speed training. Those workouts speed up the metabolism and kick start weight loss. Goal #2 is to get back to 8:30/min miles...

Once upon a time

3) Going along with exercise, I need to walk more. Since I moved and work from home, I do not walk nearly as much as I used to. It's a constant struggle for me to make sure I get in enough steps per day. No more excuses - I must walk 10,000 steps per day, especially on days I don't workout.

4) Sleep - I don't know about you, but I have read approximately 30 studies this week alone that says sleep is the answer to living a long, healthy life. You don't have to tell me twice! Will I sleep better if I go to Target and buy this onesie? I think yes…

5) Hydration - I drink a ton of water, but I don't really measure it out, and I feel thirsty a lot, so I'm going to make sure I'm drinking close to a gallon per day. That's a lot of water, but our bodies need to be properly hydrated! The below picture was actually a hydration plan for a Half, but you get the point...

Overkill?

What other tips do you have for losing the last 5 pounds?

  1. try encorporating more fats into your diet! (healthy fats!) that has helped me build muscle and lean up without actually promoting weight loss!

    1. Thanks for the tip! I love avocados, but I want to try experimenting with more oils and nuts.
