Holiday Weekends With Family Make Me Happy

We are Jersey bound today! This week/weekend has been so hectic, but family time is the best time. It was a somewhat chilly 4th of July, so I walked around the neighborhood for my Friday rest day…wearing a zip up…

After a morning walk, I made my version of a 4th of July breakfast - my normal oatmeal with strawberries added. Red, white and blue yumminess…

We spent the first half of our 4th of July moving my brother out of his college apartment. Let me tell you, there is nothing I would have rather done that day ;)

The second half of the day was spent doing this…

Much better

Dinner was grilled chicken, homemade pasta salad and roasted red potatoes. We like our carbs. Dessert was apple pie and watermelon. It doesn't get much more 'Merica' than that…

If you don't grill on 4th of July, you're doing it wrong

We didn't see the fireworks in town, but I did get quite a view of the neighborhood fireworks from my bedroom window. Happy Birthday, America…

On Saturday, mom and I woke up bright and early and went over to the reservoir for a longer workout. Mom walked for 50 minutes (!), and I ran 5.25 miles. My first mile was a tad fast (9:13), but my other miles were all in the same "long run pace" ballpark (9:25, 9:31, 9:45, 9:35). I felt like I could have gone a little farther, but my quads were starting to pulse just a tad, and it just wasn't worth it to go that extra 3/4s mile and risk hurting for the next few days…

After our workout, we were back with the family for our 5th of July celebration (not a real thing, but the 4th is over)…

My aunt made homemade bruschetta with fresh basil from her garden because that's how she rolls. She's just the best!

My personal plate…just kidding…sort of.

The only thing missing was my dad home in NJ. These crazy people make me happy…

Dinner was lasagna…

And I saved room for this pretzel crusted/strawberry/cream/jello creation (and a little more pie)…

We left the family and I packed up my life for my NJ trip. The small suitcase is full of workout clothes only. I think I may have a problem…

What was the best thing you ate this weekend? Lasagna and pie and bruschetta and watermelon.

Best workout this weekend? Saturday's run!
