The Late Worm Catches The Train - Up And Out Problems

Congrats - we've made it more than halfway through the week. I have a fun weekend coming up and lots of exciting announcements, so I can't wait for Friday!

Tuesday was a rest day, so I walked around my neighborhood a bunch of times throughout the day. Walking is the best way to clear your brain throughout the workday. Whenever I get stuck on an issue at work, I go for a quick walk and almost always have the answer when I return. It's science.

After work, I went over my aunt and uncles to hang out…because I don't see my family enough :) Seriously, I could hang out with that crazy bunch all day, every day. We had grilled chicken, baked potatoes and veggies for dinner. And yes, I did start eating my chicken before remembering to snap a pic...

This morning I was up bright and early (but not early enough) for my first personal training session in over two weeks. I really need to work on getting up and out. I spend way too much time lounging before actually getting ready for the gym (coffee, tv, twitter, repeat), and then I constantly underestimate how long it will take me to get there. The gym is literally 5 miles from my house, but for some reason it takes me 20 minutes to get there during the early hours.

Oh and then there's the freight train…

Mid-West problems

Once I finally made it to the gym, I only had about 20 minutes to run before my session. I ran a little over two miles (9:40; 9:22), and then went to PT. My trainer wasn't thrilled that I hadn't done any real strength training while on vacation, so he put me to work. Pull ups, chin ups, single leg dead lifts with a kettlebell, spider man crunches, hamstring curls, walking lunges with 30 pound free weights, and some more ab work. Fun times, let me tell you. I then ran 10 more minutes - a little over one mile - before work. I don't love breaking up my run, but I got the miles in, and that's what matters at the end of the day.

Breakfast was the usual oatmeal…

And for lunch, I had fun making a tuna/veggie plate. One slice toasted ezekiel bread, tuna, half a cucumber and a handful of sugar snap peas…

I've become the Queen of multitasking - blogging, filling out my snazzy new desk calendar and icing my knee all at the same time. No worries, this is merely preventative. I felt a slight twinge in my knee after my workout and decided to ice it before my run tomorrow. Even with a 1% incline, my legs don't always agree with the treadmill. Guess that means I have to wake up earlier to get outside more...

How long does it take you to get from bed to workout mode? I am up at 6:15ish and am lucky to be out the door by 7:15.

Do you ever split up a run?
