A Weekend Getaway & My Favorite Hill

Friday Favorite - free airport wi-fi.

I'm making my way to St. Louis this morning as a stopping point to NYC. Don't ask me why we fly West to eventually head East, but I've never been to St. Louis. Maybe I'll see that arch everyone always talks about.

Thursday's workout was another reservoir run. I try to make sure I get there at least once a week to ensure I get some hill work in. Even after talking in detail about the need to slow down, I ran too fast. At least I know I have a problem - that's the first step, right? I usually focus on my heart rate and getting into my run during the first mile, and not on my pace, but that first mile can really determine the rest of your run.

So my 9:00 first mile was a bad decision.

Splits: 9:01, 9:13, 9:20, 9:20, 9:47

In regards to the actual run, I ran it 1 1/2 minutes faster than my last few 5 milers at the same spot, which made me happy, but I know that easy runs need to be incorporated into my weekly routine or I will burn out quickly. This run was not easy. I always make sure to run up the big hill to my car as the finish to my run. I feel so victorious when I make it to the top.

Might not look like much, but this is a beast

Lunch and post-workout fuel was a Trader Joe's super spinach salad. So much goodness in one small container…

And the whole reason I'm traveling this weekend is this kid…fast forward 21 years. Yup, my little brother will finally be legal this weekend. Let the fun begin!

How often do you run hills?

What super foods did you eat this week?

Ever been to St. Louis?
