Race Days Are The Best Days!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I'm racing this morning, and I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday.

I'm a huge believer in treating yourself to a little RnR now and then. On Friday night, I had a deep tissue massage with my usual masseuse at the Woodhouse Day Spa in Dublin. Alyssa is amazing, and she's always booked so call in advance…

The deep tissue massage is actually not that relaxing. Alyssa and I chat a lot during my session discussing all the spots that need to be worked on the most. I've been having a lot of what I thought was lower back pain. Turns out, my hamstrings are pulling on my glutes, which is causing the back pain. Get to know your body. It makes all the difference. And have a glass of wine before a deep tissue massage.

After my massage, I attempted to carb load the healthy way, but it turns out that's difficult to do. Carbs were meant to be consumed in the form of bagels, not reduced guilt Trader Joe's pizzas. It was tasty, but didn't really give me the energy boost I needed for my long run the next morning...

I ran 8 miles on Saturday, but it was a rough 8 miles. It was about 20 degrees warmer than last week, so I think that definitely impacted my run. I felt off from mile 2.5 onward, but I kept going with a little help from a Gu packet at mile 5. The goal was to run every mile under 10 minutes. Oh so close...

Splits: 9:38, 9:23, 9:26, 9:32, 9:44, 10:02, 9:59, 9:59

I went to the grocery store after my run and bought a bag of ice. I have a 4 mile race this morning, so I knew icing my legs would be helpful…

Stella doesn't really understand the whole ice bath thing…

After my ice session, I went to pick up my race bib for Sunday. I haven't raced since May, so even though it's a shorter distance, I'm super excited about it…

I hung out with my family on Saturday night, and we went to dinner at my favorite Greek spot. Olive Tree is just the best. This is how you carb load...

And no post long run, pre-race day is complete without a little fro yo…

What distance are you running this weekend?

Favorite way to treat yourself?
