September Milage Recap & HIIT Workouts

How in the world is September over? I have so much going on in my life and brain that I just about forgot about the changing of the months until I looked at my fridge calendar. I did not run a lot of miles in September, but I'm not too worried about it. I took one full week off of running when I went to Europe and then slowly built back up from there to avoid injury.

September - 67 miles. My longest run was 8 miles, so the next two weeks should be very interesting.

I take my calendars very seriously - it's a sickness really. But yes, I have three calendars in my apartment. One on my fridge, one in my work space and one on my computer. They all basically say the same thing too. That's the weird part. But I go with it. Organizing my life makes me happy...

Before my workout, I enjoyed some homemade iced coffee. How did I ever live without a coffee maker before?

I did my own little version of a HIIT workout today. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a great way to make short workouts really effective. By increasing and decreasing your heart rate, you burn more fat than if you were to run at a steady pace for 30 minutes. There are a ton of articles about HIIT out there in internet land, but this article sums up the benefits of HIIT nicely. A few of the perks are below...

I started out with a 15 minute warm-up on the elliptical and then hopped on the treadmill. I ran 2.5 miles speeding up to all out sprints and then slowing down to recover. 23 minutes, and I was done! I finished my workout with 12 minutes on the StairMaster.

After my run, the only thing that could power me through the rest of my day was a mug of chai tea and some healthy snacks. Carrots, peppers and hummus. Yes, I do light candles while I'm working. Doesn't everyone?
