Twas The Night Before Race Day & We Went Apple Picking

We made it! There are a bunch of races Sunday morning, so congrats if you made it to the "start" line as well! After 12+ weeks of training, it's finally here!

I hung out with the girls today, and we stopped for brunch before heading to pick some apples at Lynd Fruit Farm. There was a Christmas tree next to our table. They decorated it with fall/Halloween decorations, so maybe it's a year round tree, but still…too soon?

I ordered the avocado turkey club with a side of apple sauce to get those carbs in for tomorrow…

It was a perfect day for apple picking. It was overcast and the temps were in the high 40's. I'm not a fan of apple/pumpkin picking when it's warm out, so I was really happy about it

After picking apples, we went over to the market to buy some Fall goodies. There were so many fun things, including these fancy caramel apples. I know how I'm celebrating the finish of my race tomorrow night… 

I also snagged some apple cider, fudge and honey. Basically, the three main food groups…

After picking apples, we made apple crisps! I use the simplest recipe (here!), and B replaced the all purpose flour with Gluten free all purpose flour to make hers Celiac Disease friendly…

The only thing that would have made this better was vanilla ice cream, but I try to ease up on the dairy before a race…

After our apple extravaganza, we went to the Expo at the Columbus Convention Center to pick up our bibs. I really really love Expos. There is so much to see and do, and being in a room with people who are as crazy (if not more so!) than you makes you feel really good about yourself. 

The pre-race dinner was almost a major oops. We didn't realize one of the zillion high schools in the area had homecoming tonight (who planned that?!), so Olive Garden had over an hour wait. We settled on Outback, and I ordered salmon with rice. And we ate two loaves of bread. Happy carb loading…

And now for my goals. I have trained well for this race, and I've trained to hit my goal, so I (unfortunately) will be disappointed if I do not PR tomorrow. A PR for me would be sub 2:05:37. 

**My Stretch Goal is sub 2:00:00. I can do it. I've trained for it. I know I have it in me, buuuuut that is still almost 6 minutes under my PR. Not an easy feat. I'm going to attempt to follow a pace leader and see what happens. 1:59:59 is the number I've envisioned these past 3 months.

**My Practical Goal is a PR - anything under 2:05 would be satisfying. 

**My Average Goal is sub 2:10. I ran my 11 mile training run last week in 1:50. If I'm running tomorrow like I do in training (which is slow), I can still hit 2:10. 

Now it's time to get out my race outfit and try to get some sleep. The coffee maker is set for 4:15am!
