Ways To Hate The Treadmill A Little Less

Is this some kind of sick joke?! It was 80 degrees 4 days ago…

I've decided to actually follow a training plan these last two weeks (better late than never, right?), which means my second to last long run was moved to Sunday. In all honestly, I did this because of the cold, hail and rain. I haven't ran any of my long runs indoors this cycle, and I didn't want to start now. So Saturday's shorter run was on the treadmill.

I haven't ran longer than 3 miles on a treadmill in a very long time. I actually can't remember the last time - last winter maybe? Since I know that inevitably some of my runs during marathon training (remember, I'm doing that? I forgot for a little while too) will be forced to be done on the treadmill this winter, I decided to run 4 miles today to start getting my mind prepared. Treadmill running = 98 % mental, 2% physical.

Ways to hate the treadmill a little less...

*Watch TV/Netflix - I will definitely be tapping into my data plan this winter.

*Play with your pace/incline - there are tons of workouts online that show you how to speed up/slow down your workouts.

*Run with a buddy - I've actually never done this, but if any of you NJ folks want to go treadmill running (or outdoor running) with me this winter, let me know!

There are a few more tips on a successful treadmill workout here and here

While the TV was on in my apartment's workout room, I mostly listened to music and worked through life's problems in my head. I played with the pace a tad - I started at 9:47 and finished at 8:57. My overall time was 4 miles - 37:30 with a 10 minute cool down on the elliptical to stretch out the legs.

I finished my workout with weights and ab work back in my apartment while watching CMT. I'm not sure why I don't watch country music videos all day long…

Lunch was tuna on ezekiel brewith two baby beets (heated in the microwave for 30 seconds), an apple and greek yogurt…

Later in the afternoon, I finally got my hair done again. The one really nice thing about being a brunette is that you can go a tad longer between hair appointments. Okay, girl talk over…

I met B after my appointment for dinner at Aladdin's. I crave this hummus 5 out of 7 days a week…

What's the temperature where you are? Is it winter yet?

What are some other treadmill running tips?
