Running Speed Improvements...Or Lack Thereof

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope you're all getting ready to welcome in the New Year in almost 24 hours. I am very ready for 2015.

After the whirlwind week of holiday madness last week - remind me to never start Christmas shopping 6 days before Christmas - I am enjoying a much more calm wind down period till New Years.

I woke up dark and early this morning to get in a 4 mile speed workout at the track. I parked at the gym and ran over to track only to see the gates were locked. I decided to run around the streets for a mile and half and made it to the other side of the track where a gate was open. I ran 2.5 miles of speedy laps and then ran back to the gym via the streets. Not exactly the 4 mile speed workout I had planned, but it sufficed...

Splits: 9:30, 8:43, 8:30, 9:01

After my run, I had a free personal training session that came with my membership. I'm not new to strength training, so we did the usual things I've done before - single legged squats, planks on a stability ball, hamstring curls with a stability ball, jumping rope, etc. I was definitely ready for a nap when it was over...

I checked out my time hop when I got home and saw that exactly one year ago, I had done a 4 mile track workout in almost the exact same pace. I thought that was a fun coincidence until I realized I probably should have improved my pace in a year. Goal for 2015 - run faster :)

I worked for most of the day - does anyone else hate using vacation time when the office is so quiet?. When lunch rolled around, I had a TJ's spinach salad. I was still hungry afterwards, so I spread some peanut butter on a slice of ezekiel toast. I'm trying to listen to my body and give it the calories it needs, especially with Marathon training around the corner, but I'm trying to make sure they're substantial calories...

In other news, I think I'm teaching Stella bad habits...

And a little sunset view from me to you. No filter whatsoever. It really looks that beautiful...

Have a great Tuesday night/Wednesday morning!

Has your running pace progressed this year? I didn't get faster, but I definitely got stronger. So that's a plus!

Do you have a marathon nutrition plan or do you just wing it?
