Tuesday Tangents & A Real Speed Workout

This blog is one big tangent, so I don't know why I'm acting like today is the only day I ever ramble. Just go with it. It's a snowy Tuesday here in NJ. I'm not complaining too much because the Governor told us to stay off the roads this morning, so I got to work from home. 31 days till Spring!

My fool proof way to feel better during the winter months: Bathing suit shopping. I really enjoy shopping for suits in the winter because A) I pretend it's summer and B) I tell myself I have tons of time to get in bikini body shape. I highly recommend buying bathing suits during the off season. Way less pressure...

On Monday, I did a spin workout at the gym. 50-ish minutes with lots of sprints. It wasn't my most focused workout. I normally try to plan hills/speed/recovery to the beat of my playlist, but my brain just wanted to zone, so I did a lot of sprinting here and there and not as many hills...

During my ride, I was thinking about crazy things like Ironmans. My 50 minute bike ride was about 20 miles long. The biking portion of an ironman is 112 miles. That blew my mind.

I brought TJ's BBQ sauce back into my life, and I'm really happy about it. Last night's dinner was a greek salad with grilled chicken and BBQ sauce. Random, I know...

On Tuesday, I did a real speed workout on the treadmill. For the past few weeks, I would add spurts of speed at random times (fartleks - it's a real thing. Google it), but today I did an actual planned speed workout...

The plan:

I diverted from the plan a tad (don't I always?) by increasing the speed of my sprints each mile until the cool down. Speed of sprints: 8:57-8:41; speed of recovery (9:50-9:22).

My left foot has been aching a tad lately (only after running, never during), so I decided to dunk my foot in a bowl of ice water for ten minutes after my run. It hurt. A lot. Recovery is part of the plan...

Do you plan your workouts or just do what you feel like doing? I like having some sort of plan, but I'm bad at following it.

Weird cravings? BBQ sauce. I've been craving it for a week.
