Feeling The Effects Of Marathon Training & Mantras

Happy weekend! I am sipping some coffee before heading out for 15-16 miles today. The plan calls for 15, but I would really like to do 16.2, so we'll see what happens.

The training cycle has finally hit me. I knew it was coming, but I expected it a lot sooner than this. After last weekend's 18 miles, and this week's morning runs, I am exhausted. With 28 days to go, I need to make sure I'm drinking plenty of water and getting lots of sleep.

I am not running Boston (bucket list!), but the Boston Marathon is 6 days before my race (and on my birthday!). I saw this tweet the other day and am applying it to my own training going forward. It's my new mantra...

"If you are feeling fresh and ready to go...YOU ARE TRAINING WRONG."

Rewind to Wednesday's morning run. The goal was 7, but I was running late for work, so 6.2 miles in 1 hour on my least favorite treadmill. I think it's important to switch up treadmills/roads/routes since our bodies need change to improve...

On Thursday, I had an "easy" 6 miles where I alternated the incline from mile 1.5 to mile 5. I tried to speed things up a little at the end, but my average pace was right where it needed to be...

Friday was a rest day, and I met my friend for dinner to fuel up for this morning's run. My only request was sushi since that has been my go-to meal before every successful long run this cycle...

And of course, we had to indulge in a little peanut butter/chocolate heavenly creation...

Have a great Saturday/run day/morning everyone!

How far are you running this weekend?

Do you have a training mantra?
