My Longest Run EVER & Marathon Training Recap: Week 8

It's March 1st! Spring is basically here. I'm just going to ignore the fact that it's going to snow tonight.

So yesterday was the happiest of all my running days. I completed my LONGEST RUN EVER. I had some doubts that my legs would make it past 13.1, but they felt great and I finished strong! I'm not going to post my splits because that's a little excessive, but my slowest mile was a 9:51 at mile 8 when I climbed a hill for the entire mile (fun times). My fastest mile was a 9:27 at mile 10. And I hit 13.1 at 2:06:05. So close to that PR :)

Average pace: 9:38

I have an iron stomach, so my pre-run meal was some oatmeal. Any normal runner would tell you to stay clear of blueberries/flaxseeds/chia seeds because of the fiber, but since I eat this exact same thing every single day, I think my body's just used to it. Also, because it was so cold, I didn't start my run until an hour and a half after I ate this. I'm sure that helps...

My fuel plan worked pretty well. 2 1/2 GUs and some smart water mixed with lemon lime gatorade. I only had half the peanut butter GU at mile 12 because I knew I needed a little something to get me to the finish line. My only issue was that I have a small handheld water bottle. I'm definitely going to need to buy the large for my long runs going forward as I didn't get enough fluids.

Week 8 recap:

Sunday: Rest; Monday: Spin - 53 minutes; Tuesday: 6.2 speedy treadmill miles; Wednesday: 4.5 medium effort treadmill miles; Thursday: 3.5 easy treadmill miles; Friday: Rest; Saturday: 15.2 outdoor miles.

Total milage for February - 104 miles! Most in one month ever.

With only 7 weeks to go, I have some things I really want to work on. First and foremost, strength training has been non existent since I'm always rushing to get to work in the mornings. I really need to start my workouts earlier and get in some time with the weights post runs. Second, I want to make sure I'm taking time for abs/hip/glute exercises. Both these things will keep my body strong for the heavy milage weeks to come.

Okay, onto the Saturday happenings...

Post run eats. I said on Friday I was seriously craving pancakes, but funny enough, when my run was over, all I wanted was hot soup (the sodium maybe?). Maybe pancakes will be made on Friday for a nice carb loading breakfast...

My friend won a two hour personal shopping experience at the Loft, so I went there Saturday afternoon, bought some cute work things for Spring and ate all the snacks provided. The pink lemonade was the best!

Afterwards, I went down to visit my parents. I hung out with my dad (yup, that's him resting on the couch) and iced my knee for a little while. It feels 100% this morning...

I then had dinner with my favorite married couple. Carrabbas for the win...

And then this happened and it was the best decision we made all weekend...

How far did you run this weekend?

Best thing you ate this weekend? That chocolate awesomeness!
