That Time I PR'd On A Training Run & Marathon Training: Week 10 Recap

So yesterday was the awesomest of days. I PR'd my Half Marathon time by 37 seconds! Okay, I know it's not official since it wasn't a race, but it was still such a great feeling.

Let's rewind real quick. On Friday (rest day), I went to the running store to buy a rain jacket of some sort. I knew Saturday was going to be a rainy day, and no amount of monsoon-ing was going to force me to run 13.1 miles on the treadmill. I also bought a larger handheld water bottle for my warmer/longer runs in the next few weeks...

On Friday night, I went back to my trusty pre-long run sushi dinner. I'm sure it's all mental, but I 100% believe that I run better if I eat sushi with lots of rice...

On Saturday morning, it was as rainy as I expected, but the temperature was not too bad. I can run outdoors in shorts in any temperature above 40 degrees. Since I knew I would end up drenched, there was no need to add wet running tights to the mix...

Okay, onto the run. It was a really great run. I went to the park and ran 3 1/2 loops around for a total of 13.1 miles. The park has great hills for strengthening my legs. My right hip felt a little tight around mile 11, but besides that, I felt really strong. I looked at my watch at mile 10 and realized if I stuck under a 10 minute pace (which I had done consistently up to that point), I would PR. That was all the motivation I needed. My fastest mile was mile 13 (9:18).

It was kind of cool that I PR'd yesterday since exactly one year ago today, I ran my worst Half. I was completely unprepared for the DC Half, and while I was happy just to finish, I was really bumming about my running during this time last year. It's nice to see where a year can take you with patience and hard work...

Week 10 recap:

Sunday: Rest; Monday: Spin - 52 minutes; Tuesday: 7 race goal pace treadmill miles; Wednesday: 5.5 medium effort treadmill miles; Thursday: 4.5 medium effort outdoor miles; Friday: Rest; Saturday: 13.1 PR(!) outdoor miles.

Weekly total: 30 miles

Oh and in food news, I finally satisfied my pancake craving post run. I asked for one, and the waitress brought two. Challenge accepted...

How far did you run this weekend?
