Summer Fitness Goals!

Tis the season to start mapping out those summer fitness goals. It can definitely be difficult to run outside when the temperatures are high, but isn't it so great to not have to wear three layers of clothing to prevent freezing to death?

Before I get to my goals, let's discuss a couple of workouts. On Friday I did some Spinning. My quads have been really tight lately, and I think my 2x/week Spin workouts have something to do with it. I may shake things up and turn Fridays into an Elliptical day. Or just work harder to strengthen my hips. That would probably work too...

On Friday night, I ate at a new to me Mexican restaurant in my town - Carlos O'Connors. The food was delicious, so I will probably be making this a frequent summer spot. It's BYOB, so we just bought a bottle of wine at the shop next door. Easy peasy...

On Saturday morning, I went to the park for a 6 mile run. I really need to slow down my runs (that will probably help my quads too), so this is the last week of speedy Saturday runs. The humidity was out of control thanks to an earlier rain storm. I was drenched by mile 2. Hello, summer...

On Saturday afternoon, we had a girls' birthday lunch at 709. I ordered the Mediterranean salad with grilled shrimp. It was delicious! I'm definitely bringing salads back into my life as meals at restaurants...

Let's chat about what's next. I have a few summer fitness goals.

Speed - This summer, I want to focus on PR-ing my 5K time - sub 24 minutes is my goal (PR is 24:10). For Mother's Day, I signed my mom and I up for a local 5K Father's Day weekend. I'm going to attempt to get some speed work in before that race and actually race it.  If I don't achieve this time on June 20th, I plan to run another 5K in August where I will succeed.

Strength - I've been talking about strength since I started this blog, but I really hope to get in more weight sessions and also get stronger in my yoga practice. Yoga took a backseat to everything else this past winter, and I wasn't even able to do a headstand without the help of the couch or a chair until last Wednesday (pic below...finally!). With lots of practice, I hope to become stronger and more flexible in the next few months...

Craziness - There's really no other word for this one. I officially signed up for the Columbus Marathon on October 18th. I have no idea if this will actually happen. I really want to do another Marathon, but training for NJ took A LOT out of me. I'm not sure if 2 in one year is realistic for me right now. With that said, I can easily transfer to the Half for this race, so if I feel I'm not going to hit those 18 and 20 milers, I'll run the Half. I ran the Half last October, and loved every second of this race, so I'm excited for whatever happens.

What are some of your summer fitness goals?
