I'm Racing Tomorrow! & A Some Lifestyle Changes

Happy weekend, everyone! So, I'm racing tomorrow! I kinda forgot. And by "racing," I mean running for fun and hoping to make it to the finish line. I haven't raced a 5K in a long time, and I'm pretty excited to race a short distance for a change. Since I'm not in racing shape to break my 5K PR (I would need to run a 7:43/mile - not happening), I'm just going to enjoy the ride. I'm thinking an 8:45ish/mile is doable. Maybe I'll see some of my hometown readers at the race!

On Thursday, it was thankfully raining outside, so I went to the gym. I feel guilty running indoors on beautiful days, but my outdoor runs have not been so great lately, so the rain made the treadmill a possibility. It was still a tough first couple of miles, but I got back in the groove of things. Finally.

5 miles, 9:20 ish pace, .5-1% incline...

I went to Target after work on Thursday for Mascara and walked out with way too much stuff. At least I have multiple race outfit choices for tomorrow. I think the pink top is the winner, but I'm not sure what bottoms yet. And an outfit for B-man. He was one month old on Wednesday :)

This morning, I had another no-so-great run. I need Fall weather ASAP. The 85% humidity was just killing me from the minute I started, and I was drenched by the end. I finished 5 miles, but I took a few stop breaks to make sure I didn't die or pass out and fall into the busy street.

Another sloppy, soaking wet 5 miles...

After my run, I did some strength training workouts with a little help from Jillian Michaels. I just noticed that huge bread advertisement right next to the workout page. Rude...

I try not to blog about weight often, because we should all be focusing on overall health/wellness/clothes fitting and not a silly number on a scale. I went to the doctor on Wednesday and was weighed for the first time in several months. I have definitely put on a few pounds - funny enough, I think most of it was from Marathon training. I'll be working hard on my nutrition for the next training cycle.

Anywhoo, my clothes still fit, but they're tighter, so it's time for me to make some changes. I'm always hesitant to talk about weight loss goals, because I went a little too far down a weight loss path 3 years ago. This time around, I'm going to be smart and keep in mind that on the days I'm active, I need to eat more. But I need to be eating the right things.

I'm attempting to cut out most dairy and processed sugar from my diet for a while. Restriction is a negative trigger for me, so I plan to have plenty of cheat moments, but I'd like to limit my intake of these foods. I don't eat that much dairy to begin with, but I do eat a lot of sugar - the tortillas I bought tonight have six grams per serving. That's ridiculous. I plan to really pay attention to the sugar in my food going forward - I'm looking at you BBQ sauce.

Some healthy changes/food options

I've replaced my normal greek yogurt mid-morning snack with a hard boiled egg...

And for lunch, I tried Kombucha - not my favorite. Maybe it will grow on me?

I also went to Whole Foods and bought a whole bunch of healthy options. I'm not counting fruit in my sugar detox. Just try taking away my watermelon...

Also tea helps curb the chocolate cravings that hit at 9pm...

I have a goal weight number in mind, but I'm not going to share it. It's for me and I DO NOT plan to go lower than that number if I'm disciplined enough to reach it. I'll also be sure to share any fun, healthy recipes I try out. Let's get healthy!

Is anyone racing this weekend?

What healthy foods are you introducing or bringing back into your life? I've been missing avocados, so I plan to eat a lot more of those.
